~ Q&A ~
We've had some questions and here are the answers!

Q: What does "Open Grounds for Schooling" mean?
A: You may practice (work/play) with your horse, mounted or unmounted, using the round pens and arenas (trails and paddocks excluded).

Q: May I change my entry (add/modify classes) during the weekend?
A: Yes. The only classes that are preferred as pre-entry (for scheduling purposes) are the Categories of Progression. Categories may be added as the schedule allows.

Q: Will there be more than one horse and handler in a round pen?

A. No, unless a handler requests another person to be present. You will have the opportunity to sign up for time in a round pen specifically for you and your horse.

Q: What is the difference between the "Mini Wilderness Challenge" and "Extreme Trail Course"?

A: The Mini Wilderness Challenge is untimed, and the Extreme Trail Course is timed.

Q: Will I have a chance to share ideas with other handlers while I'm working with my horse?

A: Yes! One of the main goals of a meet like this is to share ideas, so while schooling or before/after a class, feel free to ask others to offer their observations, suggestions, etc. and you do the same!

AAPHNE Open General Meeting
Auburn Sportsman’s Club, Auburn, MA (Directions)

On Friday, April 29, a small core group of enthusiasts gathered for the first general meeting of AAPHNE in Auburn, MA.  Talk was lively, especially as we each got an opportunity to discuss preferences in certain training practices.  The meeting brought up several topics we’d like to use in our roundtable discussions at the June Open Schooling Horsemanship Meet, to be held at Spring Willow Farm in Mendon, MA on June 4 and 5.  It was a good example of the variety of viewpoints in natural horsemanship and that all are welcome under the AAPH umbrella!

The meeting agenda included an overview of AAPH, its history and background, as well as a review of events to date and a status check for the upcoming June meet.  Entries are coming in for this event!  We are still in need of some equipment, including the loan of a few round pens.  Additionally, we’re looking for evaluators who are willing to give us a few hours, a day or two days to help with all classes.  Coaching on the scoring process is provided!

Overall, meeting participants were enthusiastic about not only what’s been done, but also about the June meet and the future of AAPH here in New England.  We’re all looking forward to the spring and summer season and to holding chapter elections in the fall in preparation for next year.  Thanks to everyone who attended!

THANK YOU
to everyone who braved the wintry New England weather to join us.

This event offers a demonstration of the AAPH Horsemanship Meet format in an informal gathering hosted by Spring Willow Farm in Mendon, MA. In July 2004, AAPH held its first Open Horsemanship Meet. Based on the great feedback and interest in more such events, the next open schooling meet is now being scheduled for Spring 2005.  Before Spring arrives, however, the mock meet on March 13th will introduce attendees to the AAPH meet format, which includes four Categories of Progression, each putting the working relationship between horse and handler into a practical context from ground work through riding.
